Rice milk is made from what it sounds like: Rice, it is a dairy free product. And for people like me that is allergic to soy, or has an intolerance toward dairy products, in specific milk, this is a great product. It just depends if you like the taste. Rice milk has a light, watery, slight sweet (naturally) taste. Some manufactures actually sweeten their product with either sugar (avoid these), or actually vanilla, this is to make it taste more like cow milk.
The milk contains more carbohydrates then regular milk, but then again it does not contain other things such as lactose or cholesterol. And it lacks the calcium and vitamins that regular milk has, it is therefor often enriched. The normal vitamins is niacin, vitamin B12, vitamin A, vitamin D and iron. But the rice milk has a lot of antioxidants in the form of manganese and selenium. It will also boost your immune system.
Protein is also a thing this milk lacks, so if you are drinking this, you have to add some more protein to your diet. The product does not have any saturated fat.
Since rice is a product hight in starch, and the milk too, it is not recommended for diabetics to drink this milk due to the fact that it could cause a sudden sugar overload.
Low on calories and fat is to other arguments that one can use, for one serving there is 3 grams of fat, and about 140 calories.
