There are many artificial sweeteners out there, but what are they, and are they safe?
An artificial sweetener is a substitute for sugar, a food additive. It tastes, and looks like sugar, but has less food energy and calories than normal sugar. This is a synthetic substance which is 30 to 8,000 times sweeter than sugar. The artificial sugars has been chemically modified, and has chemicals added to it such as chlorine. There is an on going discussion if artificial sweeteners poses a health risk, since it over time has proven that these substances increase appetite for sweets and other carbs. So if you have turned to artificial sweeteners to cut down on calories and to loose weight, look at the natural sweeteners, there are many to pick from , and many of them has a low GI.
