Rømmegrøt (Sour Cream Porridge)- Norwegian food

This is a traditional Norwegian dish that goes back a long time, some say over a 1000 years. It used to be only served for weddings, and special occasions. This is a very taste treat. My husband loves this, brown cheese and our water.

I made this a quick way to make it, you can serve this with dried meat, smoked fish,  or flatbread as sides. On top you have melted butter, cinnamon and raisins.


4 tbs butter

1 cup sour cream (tofutti is here a soy alternative)

1  cup flour (of your choice)

5 cups milk( of your choice)

1 tbs sugar ( palm sugar)

1/4 tsp salt


1.Put the1 cup milk and the flour  in a shaker and mix it well.

2.Melt the butter, and then add the mix, stir well, add in the remaining ingredients.

3.Let simmer for 5-10 minutes.

Serve with cinnamon and raisins.

Tips! To make this a low-carb dish switch out the flour with carob flour (johannesbrødkjernemel). And use a mix of cream and milk.

    I’ve never eaten a Norwegian dish but this seems like a good place to start. Looks wonderfully simple and healthy!
