Indian Chapati Bread

This is a simple way to make a quick Indian bread, called Chapati. It goes excellent with curry, and other main dishes or just as a wrap. The choice is yours. I had it as a side to my Chicken Tikka Masala.

This recipe makes about 4 breads;

2 1/2 dl (1 cup) spelt flour

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp rapeseed oil

1 dl (1/2 cup) hot water ( pour a little at the time, you might use a little less)

1.In a bowl, add the flour, and the salt, stir as you add in the oil, and just enough water so that the dough is soft, but not sticky. Knead the dough, on floured surface until smooth.

2.Divide in 4 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, and let rest for a few minutes.

3.Heat  a skillet on medium heat, add a little oil.

4. On a lightly floured surface, use a floured rolling pin to roll and the ball of dough to a very thin “tortilla”.

5. When the skillet starts smoking a little, put in the chapati. Cook until the underside has brown spots on it (about 30 sec), flip, and cook on the other side!

6. When ever my mum makes any kind of Indian bread, she has table clothes( or something like it) both over and under the breads to keep them soft. Don’t just let them lay in open air while cooking the rest.

Enjoy!
